Possible Topics/Areas of Interest for My Capstone Project

Music for the Community - potential name: "Voices of Hope"

  • Reaching out to centers for vulnerable communities (shelters for those impacted by the California fires, senior centers, homeless shelters, foster care, etc.) and figuring out dates that I can sanction a cabaret night of sorts. This project would ideally happen once every three weeks and be used as a way to a) build community within these spaces b) bring joy and nostalgia through music and c) allow student performers a chance to showcase their work outside of the immediate Poly community.

The concept for this capstone project emerged from a blend of personal experiences and a broader appreciation for the arts. As a dedicated performer, I constantly seek out ways to foster connections with fellow artists, allowing us to showcase our work in a structured and meaningful way. Envisioning a platform where creativity can flourish is essential to me. Research supports what many already sense: music has a deeply transformative effect on communities. It can stir powerful emotions—be it serenity, nostalgia, or joy. My great-grandmother, a remarkable woman who has graced this world for 98 years, embodies this truth. She's shared with me her heartfelt memories of the role that music - and the arts more generally - have contributed to her happiness. Her vivid recounting of these moments serves as a testament to the enduring power of music in sparking joy and connection. Moreover, my aspirations extend beyond engaging solely with the Poly community or my immediate family. I've been waiting for my artistic endeavors to reach a wider audience, and by harnessing my own creativity and that of fellow artists, I aim to craft an experience that not only inspires but also uplifts and unites individuals from diverse backgrounds. This project could stand as a beacon of hope and collaboration, inviting everyone to engage in the universal language of art and build a stronger sense of community together.
